Where they Started
Michael and Sarah were building their law firm while raising a family. They were working hard, serving clients, growing the business… but anxiety kept them up at night: What happens when we age out of earning power? Are we setting ourselves up right now, while we can?
Meeting Chris
Michael wanted to pay for actual planning — not be sold to. That’s why he liked Chris’s straightforward, almost blunt way of communicating. When Michael asked why he should work with Chris instead of doing it himself, Chris said: “You probably could. Do you have the time?” Frankly, the answer was no.
Working Together
Chris started with helping them define what they actually wanted.
“What does your life look like when you’re not required to work anymore?”
Then he built a baseline plan. He showed them their actual retirement age, their target number for an “okay life” in retirement, and whether they were meeting it or falling short. Then he mapped out what it would take monthly to close any gaps.
He helped them think through business transitions, college expenses for their older son, and retirement timing.
After a few years, they handed over their brokerage account to Chris. The fee structure actually went down while he took on more work.
